Pop-Up Clinics are just another way to foster deeper, more meaningful, and more fruitful connections, promote sustainable, holistic healing and build supportive community networks.
As a trauma therapist who grew up feeling isolated in rural Missouri, I have been thinking a lot about connections between “helpers” (people like us) because I see a trend of caregivers not taking quite enough time to nurture deep connections, and communities leaving a lot to be desired in terms of collaboration – really knowing about other healers/teachers and their gifts, sensing instead a subtle competition (when their work is actually complementary and everyone would benefit if we worked more collaboratively), alienation and overwork.
And what I’ve been working on is developing networks of support and healing in communities that are rich in resources but lean on juicy, playful connection. So far, clinics have been sprouting up in the Guadalajara Mexico and the Mid-Missouri regions. Some of the “gifts” being offered at these donation-basis integrative experiences include:
- Medical Intuition, Reiki
- CranioSacral Therapy
- Expressive Movement
- Yoga/Guided Meditation
- EFT Tapping
- Shamanic Astrology
- Jungian Dream Group
- Acro Yoga/Chi Kung
- And so much more!
If you are seeing what I’m seeing, you know people in your community who do really interesting work, but they are a little too busy to take advantage of your body of knowledge (“superpowers”), or you theirs. Maybe you know people in your community that could be helped tremendously by what you were doing, but they aren’t sure they are ready to commit. Maybe you know people in your community who would have the extra time to dedicate to a day or half day at a Pop-Up Clinic every month or so, and get to know their community’s healers.
Let me hear from you if you are curious about whether your community would be a good place for a Pop-Up Clinic. If you feel it is time to join forces and actually make a difference, there are likely others around you feeling the same way. Let’s deepen collaboration in our communities and amp up the healing energies already available, to make high-quality holistic health and social support available to anyone who really wants it. Visit Sana-Clinica and leave us your contact information so we can get the ball rolling!
The next Pop-Up Clinic on the calendar:
April 14, 2018 in North Columbia (MO) at the home of an indigenous massage therapist and a professional social worker/PhD student. Rumor has it that there will also be a Pop-Up Clinic in Ajijic in May, 2018. I’ll confirm as soon as I hear official word. Stay tuned for more information!!
What to Expect at the Pop-Up Clinic Event
The Pop-Up Clinic is a spa-like event where we have a group of core therapists (or other caregivers) who are offering individual sessions or leading small groups. It is a place where community members can come and try out services and modalities they have been hearing about, but haven’t felt than they were quite ready to set up an appointment. I envision this as something that continues and grows in communities to foster a greater sense of connection between healers and survivors of trauma who are just discovering and growing into their own gifts.
Pop-Up Clinics have a service focus. Donations are graciously accepted, but not required, and are divided between the therapists who are working that day.
